Regarding the Hulk's place on the team, Ruffalo said, "He's like the teammate none of them are sure they want on their team. He's a loose cannon. The 3D model used to create the Hulk's body was modeled after Long Island-based bodybuilder and male stripper Steve Romm, while the Hulk's face was modeled after Ruffalo. In March 2010, Zak Penn stated that the first draft of the script was finished. In April, Joss Whedon was reported to be the frontrunner to direct the film and to rework Penn's script; his hiring was officially announced in July 2010. Whedon said he was drawn to the film because he loved the idea of "these people who shouldn't be in the same room together, much less on the same team." When Whedon received Penn's draft, he told Kevin Feige he felt the studio didn't "have anything" and they should "pretend this draft never happened". Part of the reason for Whedon's issue was Penn's lack of focus on the character dynamics, which Whedon felt was the core of the film. Whedon went on to write a 5-page treatment of his vision for the film. Marvel began to circle Chris Evans to play Captain America in March 2010, and it was confirmed in April that he had signed a deal to play the character in several films, including The Avengers. By late July 2010, Jeremy Renner had been cast as Hawkeye, and Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton as Bruce Banner / Hulk. This was confirmed at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con International.
