The Line 6 TonePort UX1 is a legendary piece of audio interface history. For nearly two decades, this silver-and-gray box has served as the entry point for countless guitarists, vocalists, and podcasters into the world of digital recording. Its ability to model classic amps, cabinets, and effects via the bundled software made it a staple in home studios.

However, as Microsoft pushed forward with Windows 10 (and now Windows 11), a massive problem emerged. The original drivers for the UX1 were written for Windows XP and Vista. Users began reporting the dreaded or “Device Descriptor Request Failed” errors. Many assumed their trusty interface had become a paperweight.

However, if you have recently upgraded your computer or dusted off an old UX1 to use with a modern Windows 10 machine, you may have encountered a familiar nemesis: driver issues.

Unlike "class-compliant" devices (which work instantly when you plug them in via USB), the Line 6 UX1 requires dedicated software drivers to communicate with your computer. These drivers tell Windows 10 exactly how to handle the audio data streaming through the USB cable.

The UX1 does not support Windows 10’s “USB Selective Suspend” power-saving feature. Fix:

Visit the official Line 6 website > Support > Legacy Downloads > TonePort UX1. Look for "Line 6 Driver 4.2.7.6 for Windows 8.1" – it works perfectly on Windows 10.

Setting up the can be a bit tricky since it’s a legacy device, but it is fully functional with the right approach.
