Xpenology Dsm 7: Hyper-v 2021
A specialized bootloader. As of 2024-2025, the most reliable loader for Xpenology DSM 7 on Hyper-V is Arc Loader or a heavily modified RedPill build. The standard TinyCore RedPill (TCRP) builds often fail on Hyper-V due to network driver issues (the virtual NIC requires specific e1000e support).
For maximum performance, you can pass physical hard drives directly to the VM. This requires taking the disks "Offline" in Windows Disk Management first.
If you see the IP address, success! If you only see booting the kernel without an IP, your virtual NIC driver failed. Go back and ensure your loader supports e1000e or virtio (try changing the VM's network adapter to "Legacy Network Adapter" in Hyper-V settings). Xpenology Dsm 7 Hyper-v
Have you tried DSM 7 on Hyper-V? Hit a wall with the network adapter? Let me know in the comments — I've debugged most of the common errors.
Xpenology is a community-driven project that utilizes a bootloader to trick the DSM operating system into running on non-Synology hardware. For DSM 7.x, modern loaders like or RR (RedPill) Loader have largely replaced older versions, offering better compatibility with Hyper-V's virtualization drivers. You can find active development and support for these versions on the XPEnology Community forums . Core Components & Prerequisites A specialized bootloader
Start the VM. Open the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Connection window.
Hyper-V can virtualize network cards or storage controllers that DSM might not natively support, presenting them as compatible virtual hardware. For maximum performance, you can pass physical hard

Attach the bootloader image as the primary or SATA drive (depending on the loader's requirements).
