Windows Defender hates SmartSteamEmu. It often quarantines the steam_api.dll or SmartSteamEmu.dll while the game is launching , causing the "target" to suddenly become invalid.
Delete the entire SmartSteamEmu folder contents and download a fresh copy of SSE from a trusted source (CS.RIN.RU). Corrupted .ini files are often the root cause.
Save the file (Ctrl+S). Right-click the file again, go to Properties, and ensure it is not set to "Read-only."
Ensure you have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Runtime (x86) installed, as it is a core requirement for the emulator.
