While Ninja Storm is fondly remembered for its humor and the "Green Ranger" arc (Hunter/Blake – the Gouraigers), the original is significantly different:

Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger is not just a “ninja season.” It is a story about failure, growth, and the bonds that form when you have nothing left to lose. It balances slapstick comedy (Yousuke’s obsession with curry, Nanami’s secret vanity) with genuinely moving drama (the death of the Hayate master, Shurikenger’s sacrifice).

Airing in 2002 as the 26th entry in the Super Sentai series, Hurricaneger arrived at a time when the franchise was experimenting heavily with narrative storytelling. Following the massive success of Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger , the bar was set high. What Toei delivered was a season that paid homage to the ninja themes of the past—specifically Kakuranger and Hurricane —while injecting a level of drama and "cool factor" that defined the early 2000s era of tokusatsu.

The combination sequences in are notably fast-paced, reflecting the "wind" theme, and the CGI (for 2002) was groundbreaking for television tokusatsu.
