Just when it seems the Forgers have failed, Anya does what she does best: she acts like a six-year-old. Frustrated by the adults’ fake smiles and her parents’ silent terror, she blurts out a story about how her father secretly eats her snacks and how her mother talks to vegetables. It is innocent, chaotic, and utterly genuine.
