P.s. I Still Love You Book 1 Best Jun 2026

Lara Jean had written love letters to five boys in her past. The fifth letter, addressed to John Ambrose McClaren , a childhood friend from her middle school Model UN days, was accidentally mailed along with the others. John Ambrose reappears, now charming, mature, and working as a volunteer at the same senior citizens’ home (Belleview) where Lara Jean is completing her community service.

Unlike the first book’s manufactured jealousy, this triangle is emotional. Lara Jean must choose between safe, familiar, passionate Peter (who still has lingering feelings for his ex, Genevieve) and sweet, thoughtful, literary John Ambrose (who represents a past she never fully closed).

Lara Jean writes letters to her crushes—not to send them, but to say goodbye. They are her most private secrets, kept in a teal hatbox. But when those letters are mysteriously mailed out, her quiet life is turned upside down. To convince her sister’s ex-boyfriend (Josh) that she’s over him, she enters into a fake dating pact with the king of the social scene, Peter Kavinsky Why We’re Still Obsessed The "Fake Dating" Trope: p.s. i still love you book 1

While the love triangle provides the romance, the thematic backbone of the book is trust. The conflict in P.S. I Still Love You stems from a lack of communication, a realistic issue for teenage relationships.

The novel picks up immediately after the cliffhanger of the first book. Lara Jean and Peter decide to be a "real" couple, but their honeymoon phase is short-lived due to several mounting pressures: Lara Jean had written love letters to five boys in her past

Lara Jean loves both boys, but the book argues that love alone isn’t enough. With John Ambrose, everything is easy and harmonious. With Peter, there is friction, jealousy, and miscommunication — but also deeper intimacy and shared history. The book concludes that , not a passive feeling.
