An Atlanta native, Steenhuis’s artistic journey began in her youth and was solidified at Sweet Briar College in Virginia, where she earned her BFA in studio art in 1980. Shortly after graduating, she moved to France to study at the Marchutz School of Fine Arts in Aix-en-Provence.
