La Garganta del Continente (The Throat of the Continent)

When discussing the pillars of Latin American folk music, one name resonates with the force of an entire continent: (1935–2009). Known affectionately as “La Negra” (a nickname referring to her dark hair and complexion, given as a term of endearment), she was not merely a singer; she was the voice of the voiceless. Her discografia (discography) spans nearly five decades, encompassing over 40 albums that document the political turmoil, hope, and resilience of South America.
