This file is a useful for recovering or upgrading older Aironet 1600/2600/3600/1700/2700 APs to base 15.2(2)JB. For production, strongly consider a newer release from Cisco’s software download center (requires valid support contract).

If you have a home lab, a remote branch, or a small business without a Cisco WLC 2504/5508, this image is perfect. After installation, the AP will boot to the ap: prompt or IOS CLI. You will configure it via interface BVI1 and dot11 ssid commands.

Or upload the .tar directly via WLC’s page for AP model group.

If the AP has no operating system (or a corrupted one), you will see the rommon> prompt.

ap# copy tftp://192.168.1.10/Ap3g1-k9w7-tar.152-2.jb.tar flash: ap# archive download-sw /overwrite /reload tftp://192.168.1.10/Ap3g1-k9w7-tar.152-2.jb.tar

How do you actually load Ap3g1-k9w7-tar.152-2.jb.tar onto a bricked or new AP?
