The acronym LGBTQ implies a unified coalition. However, the “T” (transgender) represents a gender identity, while L, G, and B represent sexual orientations. This fundamental difference has led to distinct experiences of oppression, healthcare needs, and social priorities. This paper argues that while transgender people are integral to LGBTQ culture, their unique challenges require specific recognition within the larger movement.
