In the 1980s and 90s, the AIDS epidemic decimated gay men, but it also violently impacted the , particularly trans women of color who worked in sex work to survive. The fight for medical recognition, the demand for research funding, and the radical activism of groups like ACT UP unified gay men and trans people under a single banner of rage. Trans people stood beside their gay brothers to demand treatment; gay men stood beside trans sisters to demand dignity for those dying in poverty.

The integration of the transgender community within LGBTQ+ culture is rooted in a shared history of resistance. Many historians point to the as a pivotal moment where gay, lesbian, bisexual, and gender-nonconforming individuals, including trans women of color, fought back against systemic oppression. This shared struggle against discrimination and the fight for bodily autonomy created a natural alliance between those marginalized by their sexual orientation and those marginalized by their gender identity.

The transgender community is diverse and multifaceted, encompassing individuals from various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. Despite this diversity, transgender individuals often face common challenges, including: Shemales Tube Porno -2021-

Elevating trans voices and supporting LGBTQ+ organizations through donations or attending community events.

Today, transgender visibility in media, politics, and daily life has surged—from shows like Pose to legislators like Sarah McBride. Within LGBTQ+ culture, this has led to: In the 1980s and 90s, the AIDS epidemic

These tensions reveal that LGBTQ+ culture is not a monolith but a coalition—one currently renegotiating its boundaries around sex, gender, and shared political goals.

This highlighted a truth: LGBTQ unity is not automatic. It requires constant, conscious work. The integration of the transgender community within LGBTQ+

The narrative went: "We aren't strange. We aren't like those transsexuals who want to change bathrooms." This form of respectability politics fractured the coalition. For cisgender (non-trans) gay and lesbian people, the fight was about orientation (who you love). For trans people, the fight was about identity (who you are). When the former achieved their goals, they were often tempted to leave the latter behind.

As we celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of the transgender community and LGBTQ culture, we must also acknowledge the challenges and struggles that remain. To create a more inclusive and equitable society, we must:

Thanks for a great review Ilpo. It was interesting for me to see what you found useful in the Horizon bundle.

I bought some Waves plugins and liked them. But got upset by the WUP when I found out about it. I totally buy your argument about that the workers at Waves need to get payed. I think Waves undercommunicate what the WUP is.
I do love that Waves are supporting their old plugins and keep develop them! As a comparison I bought a plug-in from another company and a few months later that company disappeared from internet and newer came back!
So Waves are definitely a reliable partner if you like to build a long term professional buissenes.

Appreciate the thoughtful comment Erik. I agree they could do a better job at communicating what WUP is. I edited the article to include that thought. Thanks!

I appreciate your points as well Ilpo about maintaining stability in the company and paying employees fairly. I would prefer a different approach however. I have no issue paying an upgrade fee for new or improved features, or for Waves having to adapt their plugins to work in a new OS.
I don’t like paying an annual fee for no apparent changes or improvements however. I bought a bunch of Waves plugins on sale in 2020 and, when the 1 year purchase date occurred all these plugins stopped working in my DAW. I felt like I was being held hostage to have to renew licenses for no real benefit. Had I known this I probably wouldn’t have bought them.
I know there are lots of products that provide user access on a monthly or annual leasing arrangement. I have paid for upgrades for DAW improvements, added features in other products etc. on numerous occasions but I don’t want to pay an annual licensing fee for a product that I have already bought unless there is substantive improvement.

Thanks for sharing your experience David. I completely agree that is not how it should be.

You are aware that the WUP is not an annual licensing fee though, right? Something has obviously gone wrong for you there, because that is not how it’s supposed to work.

In which case you should contact Waves support.

You’re not forced to upgrade ever, unless your system specs have changed so that the version you own doesn’t work with your system anymore.

I was working quite happily with Waves V9 plugins for many years, until I decided to upgrade to V13.

So please do get in touch with Waves support, if your system specs haven’t changed there must be something wrong there, and I’m sure they’ll help you out with that.
