Originally, Sia did not intend for her film to be a musical. However, following advice from friends and the potential for a larger budget, the project evolved into a musical production, with the budget jumping from $4 million to $16 million. Written from the perspective of Music (the autistic character) to her sister, “Eye to Eye” is a heartfelt plea for patience. The production is sparse compared to the rest of the album, relying on a pulsing piano and layered harmonies. It represents the bridge between two different ways of experiencing the world.

Confusion often arises regarding the specific album attached to this era. Before the film was released, Sia released the album Everyday Is Christmas in 2017. While marketed as a holiday album, many of these tracks were born from the same writing sessions that produced the music for the film.
