If a serial number is scratched out or looks unevenly stamped (too deep, too shallow, slightly crooked), be suspicious. Authentic Yamaha stamps are crisp, consistent, and perfectly aligned. Counterfeit flutes from the 2010s often used "C" serials with the wrong font.
